I thank God for the great grace of the priesthood and the religious life, certainly two vocations that are undeserved, but because of the sheer goodness of God were offered to me. I am convinced that my perseverance, up to this point, and in the future is because of the prayers of so many people like yourselves and of course,a grace of God. I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to take advantage of the great resources that you have at your disposal. The first is Eucharistic Adoration. It is quite a miracle that a Parish can have this unimaginable grace: to have our Lord present before us 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Without Eucharistic Adoration, I wouldn't be here today, a priest of Christ. Eucharistic adoration changed my life, Christ changed my life. When my parish was beginning with a perpetual adoration chapel, I was a year out of college, lost in the world in regards to my faith. But my mother would call me everyday, asking me to commit to one hour a week of Eucharist Adoration. I was clueless about what this was. What was I supposed to do there? I was hardly going to Mass. But she persisted. I began to go, still clueless, but overtime a growing conviction grew within me that I couldn't continue being there, and remaining as I was. And here's where the second resource comes into play: the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. In Eucharistic adoration, God was speaking to me, but it wasn't until I made my first Ignatian retreat that I understood how God was speaking. This gave me the resources and graces I needed in order to discern the will of God for me, and to be courageous and generous enough to respond. Not one year later, during my second Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, I discerned with all clarity that Christ was calling me to the priesthood and religious life. So parents, be persistent, encourage your children. Take advantage of this great grace of Eucharistic Adoration and of the Spiritual Exercises retreats that are consistently being offered. Come pray, commit to an hour slot. It will change your life, it will change your family.
